The Great Debaters
When African American poet Mel Tolson (Denzel Washington, who also directs) creates a debate team at historically black Wiley College in the 1930s, he pushes the team to a level of excellence that allows them to take on Harvard University. But despite public success, personal clashes foment as the father (Forest Whitaker) of one of Tolson's students (Denzel Whitaker) begins to resent his son's loyalty to his coach.

Watchmen
Zack Snyder directs this adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons's graphic novel set in a parallel Earth in 1985, where superheroes are prohibited from using their powers despite the threat of nuclear war. When one of their number is murdered, however, the outlaw heroes -- including Dr. Manhattan (Billy Crudup), Silk Spectre (Carla Gugino), Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley) and Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson) -- unite to defend themselves.

Doomsday
When a deadly viral epidemic breaks out in present-day Britain, killing hundreds of thousands of people, the government quarantines the infected behind a walled city -- only to be confronted with a resurgence of the disease 30 years in the future. In the vein of Mad Max and 28 Days Later, this morality tale veiled as a sci-fi hypothetical features enough action, combat and suspense to keep audiences wondering, "What if?"

Duplicity
Julia Roberts and Clive Owen co-star in this curveball-throwing thriller as a pair of romantically involved corporate operatives who are entangled in a bitter rivalry between two mammoth pharmaceutical companies. Paul Giamatti and Tom Wilkinson convincingly round out the heavyweight cast as warring big pharma CEOs in this intriguing espionage effort from writer-director Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton).

Feast II: Sloppy Seconds
The chills continue in this gruesome sequel to director John Gulager's 2005 horror extravaganza as the survivors of the besieged tavern flee to the nearest town. Kill Bill: Vol. 1
In this film noir tale written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, an assassin called the Bride (Uma Thurman) is shot at her wedding by her employer, Bill (David Carradine), and other members of their assassin circle. She survives, though a bullet in her brain keeps her in a coma for five years. Setting out for some payback, the Bride hunts down the various assassins, saving Bill for last. This is the first half of a planned two-part movie.

Screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky predicted today's rash of trash television and shock-driven newscasts with this ahead-of-its-time satire that centers on a network news anchor named Howard Beale (Peter Finch) who loses it on the air. His outrageous rants boost the station's ratings and intrigue cutthroat network execs Faye Dunaway and Robert Duvall. William Holden contrasts their avarice as an old-school TV journalist who's hopelessly out of step.

The Express
Rob Brown stars as trailblazer Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy. Dubbed the "Elmira Express" because of his tireless drive, Davis also lived up to the title off the field fighting for racial equality. Director Gary Fleder's inspiring biopic co-stars Dennis Quaid as Ben Schwartzwalder, the crusty Syracuse University coach who teaches Davis the game and in return learns much from his bold civil rights achievements.

The International
Interpol agent Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and New York Asst.
