Feeding the Addiction

On several occasions, Crystal has told me, as well as others, that I am addicted to Netflix.  I can’t really argue that as a quick look at our web site will show you that in a little over a year we have watch a total of 169 movies, 158 of those have been watched by me.  Netflix has now added a new feature to their site, and chances are it will make my addiction even worse.

Last year, Netflix began allowing it users the ability to watch movies streamed over the Internet.  In the beginning, it was set up that the amount of hours you could use their service per month was equivalent to the amount of your monthly plan.  With my plan set at $16.99 per month, I was allowed to watch up to 17 hours of movies online per month.

Every so often I would sit down and watch a movie from my computer, but I would never get close to the 17 hour limit as I would only watch between one to three movies online per month.  As time went on, though, I saw the movie selection rise from around 4,000 selections to about 6,000 towards the end of 2007.

Earlier this year, Netflix lifted its monthly limit and now allows for unlimited hours of viewing time.  Along with me switching back from wireless broadband to cable for my Internet access, I have been making good use of my unlimited viewing time.  As a matter of fact, a total of 35 of the 169 movies have been watched through their online service.

Netflix adds new movies to their online service on a weekly basis and I usually peruse them every once in a while to see what else is new out there.  If I happen across something that catches my eye I usually made a mental note of it to watch it later, which was becoming a hard task to keep track of as their online library has expanded to over 10,000 titles.

Just recently, though, they made it a whole lot easier for me.  Instead of having to make a notes about instant movies to watch, they added in an instant watching queue to go along with the regular DVD queue.  Upon realizing what it was, I took all of my notes and emptied them into the queue.  Soon there after the new queue went from the four that were available from my DVD queue to 53.

Add that to the 148 we already have in our regular queue and we will be busy for quite some time.   Thank you for taking all of my free time, Netflix.
