100 Greatest Horror Classics Marathon
Recent Posts
Christmas 2013. I opened up one of my gifts from my loving wife, Crystal, and found that she bought me a large set of movies - a set of the 100 Greatest Horror Classics.
I’m sure you’ve all seen these collections before. They come in packs of 10, 25, 50, and even 100, and feature such genres as horror, sci-fi, war, and martial arts. The sets usually contain a few well known movies, but a good majority of them are obscure films that have fallen into the public domain.
According to the wording on the box, the description for the 100 Greatest Horror Classics is as follows: If you’re an old-school ghoul with an appetite for classic horror flicks, the this 100-Movie Collection is your pot of gruesome gold. From cinematic greats to genuine obscurities, this mammoth movie set offers hours of entertainment in a single package. Including 20 movies directed by Sir Alfred Hitchcock.
Getting a set of movies this enormous can be overwhelming. It’s the type of gift that says to the recipient, “Here, this will keep you busy for quite some time.” According to the box it came in, the total run time of the set is 126 hours and 40 minutes. You have to be committed to watch that many hours of movies. It made me wonder if anyone has ever watched an entire collection from start to finish.
And to that I say, challenge accepted.
No, I won’t watch all 100 in one 126 hour sitting. That would be crazy. Not even I could pull off a feat such as that. What I will do, though, is watch this entire collection, in the seemingly random order the films are in, and write up a small review of each disc in the series. These reviews won’t be as in depth as the other movie reviews on this web site, but they will give an overview of my thoughts.
I will be the judge as to if these horror films are indeed classics or weren’t worth the celluloid they were shot on.
