Jason's Thoughts
"Don't make the Hulk, Ang Lee."
I wish I remember where I read that statement so I could give credit where credit is due, but there is a lot of truth in that sentence. Hulk was a boring snoozefest with laughable special effects and way too many annoying transitions.
I don't like to give out too many one-star ratings, as to me that means the movie truly sucks with no redeeming qualities whatsoever and is not worth the time watching it. However, Hulk fits perfectly in that category. There is nothing good about this movie, except for maybe the small cameo by Lou Ferrigno. If a non-speaking, walk on cameo is the best part of a movie, you know it has to be a dud.
It's too bad Ferrigno didn't have more of a bigger role in this film as him in green paint would have been more convincing than the computer generated special effects for the Hulk in this movie. At times during closeups of Hulk's face, I actually thought that I was watching Shrek. Yes, it was that bad. One especially bad scene involves a near 15 foot tall Hulk does battle with three rabid dogs. Even worse, this was probably the best battle scene in the movie. Maybe even the best scene period.
To make this boring of a movie a little more exciting, Mr. Lee decided to use comic book style transitions over and over and over again. I usually applaud directors that use comic book inspired angles in their movies, but there is a difference between angles and transitions. A few transitions wouldn't have been bad, but these were happening throughout the film. At times, there were montages of these transitions. It got to the point that when these transition occurred I could do nothing but shake my head and laugh to myself.
It's no wonder that Marvel decided to reboot this series four years later. Ang Lee definitely needs to stick to movie featuring gay sheepherders.
