Plot
Nagisa Sugiura, a young Japanese actress, comes face to face with a
slew of ghosts after she signs on to star in a horror film. The film,
which is based on true events, is being shot at the very hotel where
the killings took place that left 11 guests dead.
Jason's Thoughts
I have been waiting for something like this to come along in the
After Dark Horrorfest and I am happy to say that I have seen a movie
that I have truly enjoyed. Reincarnation had all of the elements
working for it - horror, gore, atmosphere, acting, music. Go figure
a movie in this marathon that puts all the pieces together is a
Japanese film, complete with English subtitles.
All in all, Reincarnation is a creepy supernatural ghost story of spirits long dead avenging themselves. There are a few twists in the story, of course, but most are blatantly obvious that the viewer is able to tell what is coming and bask in the glory of what is occurring on the screen. Again, I am trying to say as little as possible to not spoil the movie for anyone.
Seeing as it is a Japanese horror film that was created a few years ago, I am surprised that no Americanized version of this movie has been created... yet. Several American horror films in the past few years were remakes of their usually greater Japanese counterpart (such as The Ring, The Grudge, One Missed Call), but maybe that trend has passed. It seems the new trend is to just remake slasher films of the 1970's.
That's fine with me as Reincarnation is great just the way it is. Even with the subtitles.
