Jason's Thoughts
I have a confession to make - I haven't watched The Butterfly Effect.  Nor have I watched the direct to video sequel The Butterfly Effect 2.  That didn't stop me from diving right in to watching the third installment of this trilogy without consulting the other two movies first.  Thankfully, I found out that each movie is contained within itself and have no relationship with the others aside from sharing a concept and a name.

I have to say that I was surprised by this movie.  I have no desire to watch the other two movies, mainly due to me having a small tolerance to Ashton Kutcher, but I am familiar with the concept, which is all you really need to know.  For those who don't know what The Butterfly Effect and time travel is all about, this film does a decent job catching you up to speed in the beginning 15 minutes.

In The Butterfly Effect 3, the lead character with the special ability to travel back in time, commits a cardinal sin and goes back ten years to a point in his own life.  In changing his own path, he sets off a chain of events that changes the outcome of his own future.  His present day has been drastically changed and he turns from a police informant to a wanted suspect.

Compared to the rest of the movies in this batch of the After Dark Horrorfest films, The Butterfly Effect 3 is fairly light on horror, although it tends to up the gore when it is used.  I'd put it more towards a suspenseful movie instead of a horror flick, but it did keep me entertained.  The movie also had a twist, as a movie with the subtitle of Revelations should, that I didn't see coming and was yet another pleasant surprise.

On top of that, the acting was decent, which includes Rachel Miner of past Horrorfest movies Penny Dreadful and Tooth and Nail, the special effects were well done, and the story was well written.  I wouldn't recommend anyone go out of their way to watch this movie, but if you are a fan of the other Butterfly Effect films, I'm sure you would also enjoy this one.
